Nowhere is the increasingly popular French decorative style more appropriate than in the bedroom. The style has just the right combination of light-hearted fun and cosmopolitan sophistication for a private boudoir. Whether it’s the trim, refined style of a Parisian café or the pastoral style of the French countryside, French-inspired decorating can create a stylish bedroom. Here are a few tips on how to decorate a bedroom in the French style.
For a comfortable and cozy French bedroom, the French Provincial style is ideal. Bright yellow and Mediterranean blue are a typical color combination of the style, a color palette that works well in the bedroom. The color white helps to marry the two primary shades in floral patterns and checked prints. The Provincial style features rustic interpretations of the French Courts of the 17th century, with the same lines and forms as the aristocratic style but with a hand-crafted flair. Chairs with caned backs and seats rather than ornate embroidery, and tables made of wrought iron are examples of the French Provincial style.
Wrought iron is heavily featured in the metropolitan French style as well, used for bed frames, tables and chairs as well as scrolled accents on shelving. A black-and-white color palette, punctuated by bright pink define the Parisian-inspired bedroom. Fabrics are a combination of crisp white linens and plush bedding, carpeting and drapery. French-inspired decorative styles are superbly suited for the bedroom, adding charm and distinction to the room where the day both begins and ends.
